Series Win

Warms the cockles of my heart to see India win the series 6-1 against Sri Lanka. When was the last time we won a series this comprehensively? We may not have a Bevan, Gilshrist or a Rhodes yet in our team but we have people who strive to be like that. They contribute to the team and their attitude shows in the way they throw themselves in the field. It doesn't matter how many matches they win as long as they play like this. And the Sachin fan in me says - after years of hardwork and pressured shoulders, he finally is part of a team that's not dependent on him. Go Team India!

Quite true. Also, the win has been fashioned by the likes of Dhoni, Irfan Pathan, RP Singh and guys like him and not the big names like Tendulkar or Dravid, though they too played their part. Quite happy too that Sourav Ganguly is not in the team. Was never a fan of his, despite his so called accomplishments as captain. Pure luck, I would say. By the way, ESPN-Star Sports last week telecast the 1971 India tour of England when India beat England at Oval. It was nice to see Chandra, Bedi and Venkat bowl and guys like Engineer and a slim and young Vishwanath and Gavaskar. Somehow that Oval win -- with great catches by Abid Ali, Solkar and Venkat in the close cordon -- still seems better than any win nowadays.

chappell-dravid combo or the ganguly fiasco or the urge-to-perform or whatever may be the reason for india's astounding success, it was a nice show by the indian team... go India go!!

Ramki, I havent watched that series. Is it even better than our tour to Pak in 2004 or world series in 84-85? If yes, then that must have been one heck of a series.
yes, gingko, a hard-core:-)
Naikutti, you missed one more reason - entire team's steely resolve in trying to keep Ganguly out.:-)

Deepa,
Undoubtedly the 1971 tour of England was better (ask the old-timers, they will swear by it) than the two other series you have referred to. I personally think the cricketers too were better then. At least they played cricket more for the love of the game.
I also agree with you on the entire team's steely resolve to keep Ganguly out. I don't blame them for it and, in fact, I wish them all the best in that endeavour too.
