Mega-serial - II
that I have time, I decided to blog about it. Yes, sometime ago he had wanted to write about this. But he got busy with his life. So I am on this mission now.
There is nothing wrong with the concept of mega-serial. I am a big fan of some of them "Chitthi", "Everybody Loves Raymond", "Seinfeld" to name a few. The indoctrination happened when I saw a mega-serial called Junoon. It was dubbed in tamil as well. Entire Chennai started talking that way - "Naan sonnen aamaam nu", "Naan panna maatten allow". All the words in a sentence were jumbled somehow. The writers of that serial introduced so many characters that they didn't know where the story was going. So it ended abruptly with the cast saying "We'd be back" a la Arnold. And the rest is history. I think tamil producers saw an opportunity there and then came "Vizhudhugal" in DD. I think it met with the same fate. I am not sure if it ended properly. (Input please)
As cable TV became more popular, mega-serial industry started booming. The writers take the viewers for granted. Dialogues like "Ponna petthuttomey pa..", "oru ponnu nenaccha...", "Ellatthayum kuduttha Aandavan..." come in all the serials. The cast is also almost the same. So its very difficult to keep track of the storyline. It takes a lot of intelligence, concentration and observation skills to tell them apart. All the out-of-market heroines like Meena, Sukanya, Devayani et al make a comeback on small screen. And some even give interviews like "I find satisfaction in doing that character", "She is more like me. I see myself in her", "I am a household name now. People actually call me by that character's name" etc.
If you watch any of these tamil mega-serials and think it can't get any worse. Wait till.....
To be continued.....

And deepz, please not to forget their off-screen interview dialaaks "Director saar romba encouragement a irundaaru.. " to anbaarnda viewers.
I just feel that the megaah serial writers write a bank of dialaaks and keep them handy and attach it to the script wherever unnecessary.
Like for eg. a dialaak like "Evlodaan saaptalum kadaisila kai kazhuvittan aaganum.." can be Ctrl V-ed anywhere.. "evlodaan saptalum kadaisiyila kai kazhivittudaan aganum.. adu madiri oru ponnu evlodaan veliyila poi vela pannalum.. kadaisiyila ava oruthaanukku pondattidaan..or kadaisiyila ava oruthannuku mundanai virichidaan aganum" types.
[Deepz, naa inda madiri dialaak neraya stock-la vechurukken.. nee serial produce pannumbodu 10% aadi tallubadiyila unakku ida vikkaren]
... to be continued i say!
"Everybody Loves Raymond", "Seinfeld"
er... aren't those called sitcoms?
reminds me of vivek in 'dhill'...with serials like 'padi kattil balu'...
Raymond and Seinfeld were much of waht u call a series rite...
Any day better than the Tuesday evening DD drama "Idho doctorey vandhutaarey" kind of dialogues.
rajesh
Bubby, kai kazhuvara logic awesome! Vivek range aayitta nee.;-)
Anon, I know they are called sitcoms but I thought sitcoms are called mega-serials here. Those sitcoms too ran for years. So I thought the two terms can be used interchangably. Any explanation is welcome.:-)
Ajay, I wasthinking of Vivek when I wrote that but couldn't remember the movie name. Thanks.
Rajesh, how did I miss "doctory vandhuttaarey"! Thats a classic.
Sitcom=Situational Comedy. Namma azhuvachi shows-la situation-um illa, comedy-um illa. So you can call them Nontras (Nonsensical tragedies).
Lol Rajesh! DD classics ! I lauuv them .Adayellam oru VCD a release panna evlo nalla irukkum... DD Tuesday classics which gave us vonderfull aarteests like 'Velakkari' Nithya, Gopi, 'Typist' Gopu, 'Kambar' Jeyaraman, T S Anandhi and ofcourse, veterans like Master Shekar , Master Ganesh, Master Shridhar!! ha ha ha
All veterans of DD dramas have now become dupping aarteests lending their vonderful vaais to TV serial nadigais and nadigars. Velakkari nithya gives voice for Nalini in Kolangal and Gopi used to be the voice of Subalekha sudhakar in the same serial. Now you know how a DD drama experience can help you give a boost to your 'kalai-chevai' career.
[Ok deepz, inda madiri trivia-kku ellam dayavasu seidhu remuneration anuppi namma natpai kevalap paduthaadha]
..Thodarum!
enna deepa, megaserial a karchu kuchita polarikku...

hey di...i do see you are a pretty busy blogger. naangellam onnum illai, compared to you. hey, just to let you know...it felt absolutely wonderful to see you yesterday after all those years and my terrible screw up the last time you were here. :-) It almost felt like not a day had passed between the last time i saw you and yesterday. But I know, it's been years.
I hope to be frequenting your blog from now on. Let's see. Hope to see you again before you leave. Try making it on monday for my concert. And....you never told me what that ragam was, that u sang to varun and asked me to identify. I din't know, i give up...;-)
I think sitcoms are comedies which do not have a continuing story and these nontras are called Soaps.
Never a big fan of these soaps... actually hated new-age cable channel soaps.
Remember "Vidaathu karruppu"... that was awesome!!!
Has any one seen "Amma angey Ganesu ingey" - One of the best Tues. night dramas.
Prakash, welcome. Nontras sounds good.:-)
Bubby, what happened to Surendar?
Rethas, you could've mailed me instead.;-) BTW, that raagam was Surya.
I, idhellam general knowledge you see.;-)
Pratap, I was addicted to Vidadhu Karuppu. That was awesome, right?
Rajesh, whom do you think you are talking to?;-) idhu oru Manadhanin kadhi laendhu ellam enakku atthu padi. I saw Amma Angey...I remember crying for one of the episodes. That ganesh guy comes as an extra in top 10 programs these days. Semma gundu ippo. He was kind of No.1 child artist on TV. Remember Mariyadhai Raman?
now why r u ending this like a mega serial...
saying thodarum...
(note 3 dots just like MS)
ya,vidadu karuppu was very good.. Chetan was very good in the climax scene , on an oonjal
Rajesh :- Amma ange.. should have got a tax exemption, appove. Ganesh nnu podama Ganesu-nnu potaane.. adukku!
Deepz, Surendar=U mean The Great S.N.Surendar, The Baap of all Dupping aarteestes who, in every interview does not fail to mention that he is Actor Vijay's sondha mama but doesnt like to use Ilaya dalapathi's name to get work. Anniyan la Nedumudi venu-kku voice namma(!)S.N anna daan
SN's son acted as junior Vikram in Anniyan
Deepz, i am very disappointed that you missed SELVI kondattam in Singapore.. All wannabe TV aarteestes dancing thayya-thakka.. taangala!
You could see a bored Nayan-Simbhu-Reemma sen as part of the audience.. Semma kadi.. aanalum naa parthen.. [pinna un blog la comment pannavendaama?]
..Bloggum [Thodarum oda Blog version]
oracle, thats the idea - to give the feel of a mega-serial.
Bubby, I am very disappointed that I missed that function. BTW, Nayan-Simbu nadoola enna Reema like Kabab me haddi, sorry, siva poojai la karadi!?;-)
The guy who acts as Lord Krishna in DD dramas, lives in KKNagar. We both used to go to the same barber shop and he gets free haircut for his celebrity profile.
Ganesu has acted as Rajinikanth and Vijayakanth too.
Deepa
You did not miss anything by not watching the Selvi Kondaattam...Andha kandraviyai naan parthen...
Simbu and Nayanthare stagela oru vazhisal dhaan...I dont think this pair would walk the isle like Jo and Surya...
I think these TV artists should stick to what they r good at...wheeping, scheming...they should not attempt dance et al...
Nonetheless Venu Arvind and Bhaskar sang an old shivaji song...that was the only nice thing in the whole programme...
The song sung by Venu Aravind and MSB was "Penn ondru kanden, ponn angu illai". It was in abaswaram. No sruti nothing. Especially Venu was Kevalam.
Rajesh
Rajesh, that TV krishna's kid studied in our school. I saw him a couple of times. Jnew he was in KKnagar.
BTW, Ganesu also acted as junior TRajendar.
Which school was it? Shd be in KKNagar somewhere!
Rajesh

Hi
I am new to this place. I found loads of useful information here. I would also like to add some thing for this community. I would like to share some quick weight loss tips. If you need to know how to lose 10 lbs in a calendar week, you are likely not searching for a regular diet and work out plan. You can lose weight with a common diet and workout plan, However this takes a lot of time doing intense cardio drills and following a strict diet. Here I will draft the right steps that I took to lose 10 pounds in just a calendar week.
1. Stay away from all fried nutrients for the week
2. Drink an 8oz glass of Citrus paradisi with breakfast each day. (this speeds up up your metabolism)
3. Eat Up limited portions (stop taking when you are full)
4. Instead of taking 3 big a meals a day, take 5-6 smaller meals to keep your metabolism up and keep your body burning fat.
5. Aviod eating after 9 P.M.. Calories do not burn, when you eat so late.
6. Proper sleep is necessary everyday.. Not getting enough rest causes been proven to be a ranking factor to the body putting up excess fat.
7. Use a body/colon cleanse for the 7 days. This will get rid of unnecessary fat stored close to the stomach area as well as cleanse your body of harmfull pollutants that makes you store fat and feel tired. Flush away excess pounds around the stomach area that otherwise would be hard to lose.
8. I reccomend you using Acai Berry Diet Pills. This one is proven to work, and you can get a free trial.
9. For those individuals who wish to burn fat quickly, avoid intoxicant.
10. A low GI diet is an excellent method of loosing fat quickly.
