National Crisis

Lok Sabha is going to discuss the Ganguly issue. If you think there are more important issues in the country that you want discussed, you have no right to call yourself an Indian. Next week the school kids might enjoy an extra holiday because the Left parties would've called a nation-wide bandh in view of Ganguly's exclusion, which was most probably influenced by a non-Indian called Greg Chapell hailing from a bourgeois land. Hail our Leaders.

This might at least get funny. After all, the least the tax payers could get in entertainment. Why do you want to spoil that?

Sarcasm?
If people can play politics in cricket, why not talk cricket in the political stadium.

Well atleast everyone in the parliament will participate in this debate. Cricket is probably the only subject that every Indian can talk with ease.

Its Christmas holidays for schools anyway.

For once the Left is right.

Rajesh, you said left is right. How can I even begin to try to convince you the other way?

Deepa,
Ok. I am not a Leftist myself. But I am a firm believer of balance in everything. With MMS' expansive globalisation and free market plans, and his speech at Oxford applauding the British Rule in India, my position only gets stronger. Nehru would feel disappointed for his Congress has been hijacked far from his ideals - inspite of calling him the greatest Prime Minister.

India had Potential in the 90's now India is exposed and getting exploited. The tag "skilled labour" does not justify our fellas' work. Imagine these companies shifting to a China or Philipines overnight. Today labour laws are so weak that nothing can be done to protect the people.

In any case I mentioned "For once left is right" referring only to their support of Ganguly not their actions in the streets.

In the Vijaykanth movie "Ramana" Yugi Sethu has a scene with the north Indian officer. He says "Tamilians are not sentimental idiots. They don't trust anyone easily. But if they place their faith on someone, they will do anything for that person."

Holds good for West Bengal too.

Dearest Rajesh,
Read your comment again. You sure would be admitted into some hospital after that - for dangerous dehydration owing to continuos puking. When you recover, let me know. We can continue this, then.

Nilu,
Cynicism apart; do you have anything specific that you would like to point out. I am willing to learn if you would educate. I can take your comments in my stride, if you agree.
Let me know your view.

In a nation where over a billion people watch a game that's not even
the national sport - and is international just by sheer virtue of
being played by all of eleven/twelve countries (just like "Gopal
palpodi" is international because it sells in India, Sri Lanka,
Malaysia, Singapore) - and where talent in other sports languish for
lack of support, it's only fitting that the nation's elected
representatives convene to waste a session of Parliament discussing
the merits of a non-performing, undignified and childishly brash
ex-captain of the Indian team.

@TPI - Maybe YOU can come up with the magic number ---- of countries that should play a game before it can be considered international. :)

Let me add my two bit worth. Did you notice that all those politicians who are protesting and who want it debated in Parliament are from West Bengal and all of them are Communists. Parochialism, is that what it is? Those who are demanding Ganguly's reinstatement should first realise that he had been in the team all these years only because of Dalmiya. As to his records as a captain and all that, sheer coincidence, I would say. Mike Brearley was rated as the best England captain ever -- that guy couldn't bat to save his place in the team. In a World Cup match against the West Indies, Clive Lloyd instructed his fielders not to take any catch that came of Brearley's bat. At the other end was Geoff Boycott. Lloyd himself dropped a catch in the slips. And England probably won during Brearley's captaincy because of the decline of the other teams, especially Australia and a guy called Ian Botham. The same with Ganguly too.

Ramki,
You must be having the Ghajini problem - short term memory disorder/ anterograde amnesia.

Rajesh,
Read your observation about my comment on the Ganguly episode -- Gajjini problem or short-term memory disorder. Unfortunately for me, my memory on cricket (as with most other things) is quite good. I had started writing in detail about why I had said what I did about Ganguly. But, then by sheer accident came across this post "Saturday, December 17, 2005
Ganguly - Those who live by the sword die by it" in http://hawkeyeview.blogspot.com. Contains more or less what I wanted to say. You should probably read it before you venture to pass judgement on other's memory or their disorders.

Ramki,
No offence intended. I just mentioned it because you have totally denied credit to Ganguly's achievements as both player and captain by mapping to Dalmia's influence and coincidence respectively.

Mike Brearley was a wicket keeper. His average as a wicket keeper compares well with his counterparts. He was a better captain. This has been recorded by many cricket writers, although I haven't been witness to any of his games personally.

Leaving facts for convenience and calling all Bengalis "parochail" doesn't do good either. They will simply retaliate by calling all Tamils as LTTE. I don't want that. Do you?

Talking about Ganguly's international cricket entry and bad domestic record is not required when you have a fantastic international record before you.

In every case I still feel you have chosen what you want and avoided some important info- to justify your point. Either you chose it for your convenience or there shd be a lapse of memory. I gave you the benifit of doubt.
